MediPy is a cross-platform software (Windows, Linux, Mac OS), dedicated to the visualization and processing aspects of medical imaging. It is targeted at both physicians and researchers, being both user-friendly and easy to extend. Physicians will benefit from the pre-programmed tasks (e.g. segmentation, registration, detection of lesions) and the possibility to record new tasks, tailoring the software to each user. The use of standard file formats (Analyze/Nifti, Dicom) allows to load image from many sources, as well as integrate to a PACS.
HL7 file viewer, in tree-view format, with associated segment/field documentation. The latest release now includes editing, at all levels in the tree-view, e.g segment, field or component values. Purpose is for testing and bug-tracing HL7 communications.
The Medical Imaging Interaction Toolkit (MITK) is a free open-source software system for development of interactive medical image processing software. MITK combines the Insight Toolkit (ITK) and the Visualization Toolkit (VTK) with an application framework. As a toolkit, MITK offers those features that are relevant for the development of interactive medical imaging software covered neither by ITK nor VTK.
Core features of the MITK platform:
The MedicalExplorationToolkit (METK) was designed for loading, visualizing and exploring segmented medical data sets. It is a framework of several modules in MeVisLab, a development environment for medical image processing and visualization.
Brainstorm is a collaborative open-source Matlab application dedicated to magnetoencephalography (MEG) and electroencephalography(EEG) data visualization, processing and cortical source estimation.
The intention is to make a comprehensive set of tools available to the scientific community involved in MEG/EEG experimental research.
For physicians and researchers, the interest of this software package resides in its rich and intuitive graphic interface, which does not require any programming knowledge.
VTKEdge is no longer under active development, as its functionality has been incorporated into the Visualization Toolkit (VTK). The VTKEdge project created a library of advanced visualization and data processing techniques that complemented VTK. The custom modules to enable the use of these techniques within ParaView have also been incorporated into VTK.
The Visualization Toolkit (VTK) is an open-source, freely available software system for 3D computer graphics, image processing, and visualization. It consists of a C++ class library and several interpreted interface layers including Tcl/Tk, Java, and Python. VTK supports a wide variety of visualization algorithms including scalar, vector, tensor, texture, and volumetric methods, as well as advanced modeling techniques such as implicit modeling, polygon reduction, mesh smoothing, cutting, contouring, and Delaunay triangulation.
The Spatiotemporal Epidemiological Modeler (STEM) tool is designed to help scientists and public health officials create and use spatial and temporal models of emerging infectious diseases. These models can aid in understanding and potentially preventing the spread of such diseases.
The OpenEEG project is about creating a low cost EEG device. Working hardware has been built and is in a late beta stage. Software is still only alpha.
Many people are interested in what is called neurofeedback or EEG biofeedback training, a generic mental training method which makes the trainee consciously aware of the general activity in the brain. This method shows great potential for improving many mental capabilities and exploring consciousness. Other people want to do experiments with brain-computer interfaces or just want to have a look at their brain at work.
