The main goal of the Computer Assisted Search for Epidemics (CASE) project is to develop a reliable system that generates warnings when the number of reported cases of a particular infectious disease reaches a level that indicates an unusual or unexpected rate. The system is currently in use at the Swedish Institute for Infectious Disease Control (SMI). It performs daily surveillance using data obtained from the database to which all notifiable diseases are reported in Sweden.

Weka is a collection of machine learning algorithms for data mining tasks. The algorithms can either be applied directly to a dataset or called from your own Java code. Weka contains tools for data pre-processing, classification, regression, clustering, association rules, and visualization. It is also well-suited for developing new machine learning schemes.

REMITT is a revolutionary medical information translation and transmission system, which is primarily used for preparing and submitting medical billing data.

REMITT works independent of any specific electronic medical record (EMR) or practice management (PM) system, and can interface with any EMR or PM system which implements its application programming interface (API). The first system to do so has been FreeMED.

Epigrass is a open-source simulation platform created to study epidemics and their spatial (geographic) dinamics.

Epigrass was developed as a scientific project, by the founders of Metamodellers at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation. Currently, Metamodellers is the main maintainer of the code, ensuring its continuous improvement while remaining a completely free tool.

FreeDiams

FreeDiams prescriber is the result of FreeMedForms prescriber plugins built into a standalone application. FreeDiams is a multi-platform (MacOS, Linux, FreeBSD, Windows), free and open source.

It is developed by medical doctors and is intended for use by these same professionals. It can be used alone to prescribe and / or test drug interactions within a prescription. It can be linked to any application thanks to its command line parameters. Available drugs databases : USA (FDA), Canadian (HCDPD), French (AFSSAPS), South African (SAEPI).

Mediboard is an open source Healthcare Information System based on web technologies.

Deployed in either a public or private healthcare center, Mediboard handles the whole its patient files as well as most workflows and plannings of its activity.

As of april 2011, more than 1,1 million patient files in France are managed by Mediboard (link).

For this purpose, many countries maintain a “Perinatal Registry” – an electronic database in which relevant information related to pregnancy and childbirth (obstetrical history, risk factors, test outcomes, etc.) is periodically collected and evaluated.
