It is designed from the ground up to meet the requirements of most scientific research, including capturing participant consent, extensible input tasks, and the security and privacy needs necessary for IRB approval.

Is it similar to Apple's ResearchKit(TM)?

Yes, an overarching goal of ResearchStack is to help developers and researchers with existing apps on iOS more easily adapt those apps for Android.

EtherCIS (Ethereal Clinical Information System) is an Open Source platform compatible with the openEHR standard. It is design to allow simple interactions with clients using RESTful API and persist clinical data in a separate DB engine. Clinical data are exchanged using different formats:

FLAT JSON: which is a flatten representation of access path along with the corresponding field value
Canonical XML: representing an openEHR composition in standard XML

The Arden Syntax as a standardized language to represent medical knowledge can be used to express medical knowledge.
Arden2ByteCode is a open source compiler for the Arden Syntax. Arden2ByteCode runs on Java Virtual Machines (JVM) and translates Arden Syntax directly to Java bytecode (JBC)
executable on JVMs. It also serves as runtime environment for execution of the compiled bytecode.

FMRIB Software Library (FSL) is a comprehensive library of analysis tools for FMRI, MRI and DTI brain imaging data. FSL is written mainly by members of the Analysis Group, FMRIB, Oxford, UK. FSL runs on Apple and PCs (Linux and Windows), and is very easy to install. Most of the tools can be run both from the command line and as GUIs ("point-and-click" graphical user interfaces).

A major diffculty in image guided therapy (IGT) is acquiring the patient's anatomy intraoperatively, which can be used for registering preoperative information. Intraoperative use of standard modalities has several limitations, such as low image quality (ultrasound), radiation exposure (computed tomography) or high costs (magnetic resonance imaging). An alternative approach is using a tracked pointer and registering the acquired points to surfaces identified in preoperative images.
