Epigrass was developed as a scientific project, by the founders of Metamodellers at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation. Currently, Metamodellers is the main maintainer of the code, ensuring its continuous improvement while remaining a completely free tool.

The DHIS 2 is a tool for collection, validation, analysis, and presentation of aggregate statistical data, tailored (but not limited) to integrated health information management activities. It is a generic tool rather than a pre-configured database application, with an open meta-data model and a flexible user interface that allows the user to design the contents of a specific information system without the need for programming. RODS collects and analyzes disease surveillance data in real time and has been in development since 1999 by the RODS Laboratory. In 2002, the Utah Department of Health used the software for monitoring during the Winter Olympics Games.
